How Sarah Palin's Pandering Motivated Me

Before Sarah Palin's speech, I was on the phone with a friend. This particular friend and I have a special bond because are children in the same special needs school. My 7 yr old son has autism and her 7 yr old son has a hereditary condition. We were discussing the Sarah Palin pick. She told me she believed Sarah Palin was going to try to throw her son's disability into the speech as a political tool. With numbers like 1 in 150 kids in the USA being effected by autism...it would be a no brainer. I was shocked at my friend's statement. I told her that I didn't think anyone would stoop as low as that. To try to pander their son's disability to tap into the large numbers of kid being effected by autism as well as other disabilities? That would be low.

Boy was I wrong!

I wasn't the only one that thought Sarah Palin used Trig Palin: Infant as Political Tool

This post has a very important point I want to highlight:

Sarah Palin is from the party that ensured that parents of Autistic children have no legal recourse against Big Pharma long before the science behind thimerisol was in. Sarah Palin is from the party that fights for the insurance companies ability to exclude the care for Autistic children from coverage. Sarah Palin is from the party that explicitly excludes funding for education for disabled children, and goes about slashing what little spending can be forced into the budget. This is not some hidden agenda of the Republicans. It is their spoken platform, and she expects the American people to believe she's going to somehow change that? From the VP slot?

Bravo whereisboblafollette! Perhaps the mainstream media overlooked it, but you did your part!

I'm 38 years old. For the first time in my life, I contacted a political party to volunteer. I, like Sarah Palin, will be taking my kids with me... 6 out of my 7. (My oldest is in the Navy, on a submarine right now.) Four of them are teens for Obama and none of them liked how Sarah Palin tried to use autism or special needs kids as a political tool. We'll be working hard for the Obama/Biden ticket.

I learned one important thing about Sarah Palin from her speech.

Sarah Palin has no scruples.

Its important that you take a stand for something you feel so strongly about. I think its a great message to be sending to your kids. And a great learning experience for them to be a part of. Way to be a great Mom!
