How Did You Choose Your Child's Name?

Did you know what you wanted to name your child?
As a teen, I had chosen several names for a girl. Strangley enough, I didn't have any for a boy? Anyway, I there were a few names that I liked and was convinced would be the name of my daughter in the future.

As a teen, I was loved reading books. That's why one of the names I liked was Bronte. I know, I know. My mother never let me hear the end of it. The other name I liked was Medea, the villain or heroine (depending on how you look at it) of the Greek play written by Euripides. I ended up naming my black cat after her. Her character was too dark and the thought of naming an innocent little girl after her made me shudder. There was another name I liked: Priscilla Princess. We'll get back to that.

In my twenties, I started attending a born again Christian church. Before that, I attended Catholic School all my life, so I was familiar with many of the women's names. Guess what? I ended up having a son first, which was named after his father...biblical first and middle name. Eleven months later, I gave birth to a little girl. After all the names I had toyed with, I ended up picking the name of a woman from the bible. What's amazing is the name became almost prophetic.

My second to last child was also a girl. (Remember, I have 7 kids (2 non bios).) I was going to name her Salome. She was the mother of the brothers James and John in the bible (one of the 12). My father teased me about it constantly. He said kids would tease her in school and call her salami. The other name I was considering ended up being the name of my ex-husband's "other daughter". (You'll have to read about it in a previous post.) I ended up naming her Priscilla (minus the Princess). Although, many of you know Princess is what I call her in this blog. :)

My sister didn't know what to name her daughter. She bought a baby name book and poured over it with her boyfriend. They rented books from the library and still nothing. Then one day, she came across a very unusual name. It was a violet colored flower....Iantha. This is what she chose to name her. For those of you that are wondering...Iantha is The Chatterbox. :)

My best friend created aher daughter'a name. Her hubby's name is Eric. Her daughter's middle name is Cire. Notice anything? Cire is Eric ...spelled backwards, pronounced Cyree. Her sister created her daughter's name too. Her name is Daisy, her hubby's name is Joshua. What do you get when you put them together? Daishua! Pronounced Daysha.
