Thanks to Governor Spitzer, average New Yorkers are going to have a very difficult time purchasing tickets to concerts. As a mom that takes her kids to age appropriate concerts like The Jonas Brothers, The Cheetah Girls and Barney...I'm upset.
There aren't many things that are affordable in NY. Fortunately, I live in upstate NY which makes it little more affordable for a family of 8. My sister lives in one of NYC's boroughs and she has a tough time making ends meet....and she works two jobs as a paralegal to support herself and two kids! Concerts are a small luxury that kids love. (Hey, it's cheaper than skiing.) Taking them to a concert for one of their favorite shows (like Dora or Barney) is an experience they remember for a lifetime. I still remember going to see the Rockettes at the Christmas Spectacular as a young child. Heck, I still remember my first Menudo concert!
Thanks to Spitzer, those that are financially advantaged will be able to snatch up tickets to any venue. Let's be for real...how many average Joes will be able to afford a couple of thousand dollars for a concert ticket. I guess we can say good bye to the circus in 2008!
Here's the full story of Governor Spitzer's conscience decision to make New Yorkers travel out of state for concerts. This can't be good for the NY concert halls.
First New York City is feeling the effects of the writer's strike, now this! How are you going to fill up the concert halls when the average Joe can't afford to buy a ticket? Makes you think if he really thought this one through. Geez, I wonder if all the consequences that stem from this legislation will be worth the $40,000. contribution ticket brokers made to his campaign?
7 kids, autism, a large blended family & so much more. Never a dull moment...

Why We Had Thanksgiving Without the Turkey
Thanksgiving was crazy this year. I had made plans to spend it with the kids at my sister's in the Bronx, NY. I bought the turkey on Saturday. Feeding my 6, my sis and her household (remember Sleepy Dwarf is in the Navy), means getting a huge turkey. For this reason, I bought it early and left in the fridge to defrost. At 6am I tried to start seasoning the turkey and it was still not thawed! This after I decreased the temp in the fridge the night before.
Anyway, I decided to take the turkey to my sister's. The 1 hour and 45 miniute ride with the turkey would help the thawing process, right? Long story short, by the time all the pans of pork, pies and ziti had been baked....the turkey didn't enter the oven until 6:48 pm. It was a 22lb. turkey..need I say more. At 2am, I was slicing that huge turkey. I put it in tupperware and put it in the fridge for Black Friday's lunch! Honestly, most of my kids are vegetarians so I wasn't too concerned. Everyone else would eat it the next day.
About Thanksgiving With My Family
When we get together, we like to fell comfortable so we keep it very informal. We celebrate Thanksgiving just so that we can get together and enjoy each other's company. No formal settings, no uncomfortable clothing, no banishing of the kids to the kiddie table. We create memories of a life time, of laughter and joy. No stress, no impossible expectations.
Thanksgiving Holidays With Other Families
It beats how I spent Thanksgiving years ago with my ex. His aunt and uncle would make everyone spend the holidays at their home, starving everyone. She's a control freak. She wanted everyone at her home at 10am. She didn't give you breakfast or lunch. You had to wait all day until the food was done and she set her table with a complicated table setting. Understand, her husband's dad was a simple man from the Caribbean. She took pleasure in mocking him when he ate with the wrong spoon or fork. I never wanted to go, but there was no way I could get out of it. It was hell and I thank GOD every year that my children and I don't have to be subjected to that. I hear horror stories about family gatherings during the holidays. It's unfortunate, but I know it happens. I lived them with my ex's family....
Well, I hope you and your family enjoyed your holidays. We all enjoyed ourselves...
